Please join us at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon or online via Zoom for these special ceremonies.
The Everyday Zen Bay Area Practice Period 2023 concludes with the Shuso Hossenshiki or Dharma Inquiry ceremony, the culmination of the Shuso’s duties as head monk. This will be followed by a celebration of the Buddha’s birthday.
In the Dharma Inquiry ceremony, Myogen Neal Shorstein will express their understanding of the Dharma in a lively question and answer period and reaffirm their commitment to Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.
Please note: Participation in the Dharma Inquiry ceremony by asking a question of the shuso is reserved for Practice Period participants. Others are invited to attend and observe, and to join us in chanting and bowing. Practice Period participants will receive an invitation with instructions on forming a question a few days before the ceremony.
Following the Dharma Inquiry ceremony, Norman will formally close the circle of Practice Period.
The afternoon’s events conclude with a celebration of Buddha’s birthday by bathing a figure of baby Buddha with sweet tea under a beautiful canopy of flowers. All are invited to participate in this joyful practice.
To end the day’s gathering, we’ll have a reception with a light dessert.
