From August 21 – September 18, Jaune will lead Dharma Seminar in a study of The Five Remembrances.
These teachings from the Pali Canon were offered by the Buddha to awaken us from denial, cultivate gratitude and appreciation for the life we have been given, and teach us about impermanence, non-attachment, equanimity, grief, loss and acceptance of what we cannot control.
Each week a small panel of EDZ sangha members will offer teachings they turn to in their practice of The Five Remembrances, sharing their life experience, wisdom, compassion, creativity and not-knowing.
Each week’s Seminar will include chanting or reading from our main text, “When Blossoms Fall: A Zen Guide for Death & Dying” (PDF), plus other suggested readings from a comprehensive resource list, sharing in break-out groups, large group discussions, guided meditations, and practical information.

- On August 28 (only), we will also meet in person at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon.
In-Person Attendees
Dear Sangha members attending in person,
Given the summer surge in Covid transmission we thought it prudent to remind in-person attendees of the weekly seminar of the EDZ Health policy, particularly points 3 and 5, below:
- In-person participants should be fully vaccinated and boosted for Covid and vaccinated for seasonal flu.
- The requirement for at-home testing of attendees has been suspended at this time for events at the Community Congregational Church, Tiburon.
- Masking is optional and encouraged for attendees who require or desire an extra measure of safety.
- Event leaders may be unmasked while speaking and chanting. They will test for Covid in the morning and maintain distancing while speaking.
- If you experience a new onset of fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell or taste, sneezing, sinus congestion; test positive for Covid; or have had exposure to someone with a known diagnosis of Covid or flu within 5 days of the gathering, please do not attend in person.
Many thanks,
Michael Gelfond and Neal Shorstein, EDZ Health & Safety
