Studying the Precepts

Each meeting will focus on an individual precept and how we take that into our daily lives. We will come together for reflection and conversation. These meetings are meant for anyone who would like to commit to regular attendance (as much as is possible) and participation in the classes.

Although this class would be good preparation for Jukai (lay ordination) this class is intended for anyone who is interested in looking at the role of the precepts in our lives, not only those who may be considering Jukai with their respective teacher.

This class is designed as an introduction to the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts of Zen Buddhism. We think that it will be appropriate for anyone, at any stage of life, who wishes to deepen their practice of the precepts. Throughout Zen practice, we are encouraged to make the ongoing study of precepts a centerpiece of our life.

Participants will be invited to keep a journal if they wish. Links to additional readings, and class recordings will be made available to those who register for the class.

This is not a drop-in group. Please register no later than November 9 to attend the whole series. (Naturally, it is understood that occasional important commitments might keep one from attending every class, but the intention is to try to attend.)

Registration will close after November 9th.

If you would like to be assigned a practice partner with whom you can communicate between classes, please let us know by checking that option in the registration form (below). If you have a partner in mind, please include their name in the space provided.
