Pravarana Ceremony (confession and purification)

Reserved for Practice Period participants.

All participants in the Practice Period are warmly encouraged to join us online via Zoom for Pravarana, a ceremony traditionally held at the end of Practice Period.

Pravarana is a ceremony of confession and purification, in which participants sincerely reflect and confess their shortcomings during the Practice Period and beg for forgiveness from the other monks. It is mentioned in Dogen’s fascicle on Ango and at the opening of the Surangama Sutra.

Practice Period participants will receive an invitation with instructions and the text of the ceremony.

This ceremony takes place after Morning Zazen on the same Zoom link.
