Tassajara is looking forward to hosting Everyday Zen in 2023 for a 5-day Sangha Week Retreat.
We envision a 2023 summer of Suzuki Roshi sanghas practicing in the intimacy of Tassajara valley, growing together in the Dharma, and preparing our beloved monastery for a robust 2024. To support a strong practice at Tassajara and to prepare for the summer program in 2024, we invite our Abbots, Senior Dharma Teachers, and some Branching Streams & associated sanghas to practice at Tassajara from May to September.
Please plan to arrive on a Tuesday morning and depart on Sunday early afternoon.
Sangha Weeks have brought much enthusiasm and warm-hearted sincerity of practice to Tassajara Summers in the past. We look forward to practicing in the valley with you.
Cost, Schedule, Work-Practice & Housing
The Sangha Week cost will be $600 per person, no charge for the teacher leading the group. Participants and teachers must attend the full program, Tuesday through Sunday. This will include morning zazen & service, work-practice, and evening zazen or Dharma events. Four hours of work-practice daily is required of participants. (Teachers may use work time for teaching preparations). We are asking groups to work either in the morning or the afternoon/evening. Stages will be available on a limited basis — for those who cannot drive or carpool in–and will be $75 roundtrip. Teachers may ride the stage free of charge.
As we will not have a regular guest season in 2023, we will be able to provide our guest housing to Sangha Week participants. Rooms will be assigned, most single occupancy, however it will be helpful for some participants to share housing with their fellow sangha members. CPAP and other medical needs in regard to housing will be accommodated as much as possible.
As of now, we don’t know what, if any, Covid protocols will be in place for summer 2023. We will keep you updated as the situation unfolds.
