Villa Maria del Mar & Online via Zoom

Please bookmark this page for easy access during sesshin.

Welcome to the annual Everyday Zen Bay Area Hybrid Sesshin. All times on this page and in the linked materials are given in Pacific Time.

Again this spring, we will be sitting together with the in-person sangha at Villa Maria del Mar in Santa Cruz. This shared space provides an opportunity for intensive practice as our annual Practice Period draws to a close.

Zoketsu Norman Fischer is leading the sesshin along with Ryú Gen Myō Ei Tracy Grubbs (Dragon Eye, Inconceivable Shadow Image), our Shuso (Head Student).

On this page you’ll find resources to support and guide you through the week: the Zoom link, links to the daily and 7-day schedules, the EDZ Chant Book and a chant guide for use during services, a pair of guides for practicing sesshin online, information on practice discussion opportunities, and a link for dana. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these materials before sesshin starts.

A core instruction of sesshin is to follow the schedule. If you need to modify the schedule for your timezone or other circumstances, please do so before sesshin begins and follow your modified schedule through the week.

We’ll begin with an Online Orientation on Monday, May 18 at 5:00 pm (PT) and encourage all to attend. Following this, we enter into silence with the in-person sangha as sesshin begins.

This year we’re able to offer both Group and Individual Practice Discussion, thanks to the generosity of our senior teachers.

One Group Practice Discussion is offered each day. Please choose one to attend and sign up in advance using the sign-up sheet linked in the sidebar. The sign-up sheet closes following Online Orientation.

Individual Practice Discussion is offered Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The request form opens each morning for that day only. Find the form linked in the sidebar.

Dana

Sesshin teachings are offered freely, without charge. A contribution (dana) to support the teacher and our shared practice environment is the custom and greatly appreciated.
