Mindfulness and Zen Meditation: Opening and Closing, Like Bird Wings

Expand your experience of body, mind and breath in each moment and discover how mindfulness and meditation practices can illuminate your life. 

Sometimes we open to the joys and sorrows of life with grace and equanimity; other times we contract and push away from our experience. Can we accept both opening and closing as natural, important, and beautiful? In this retreat, discover how to open, just be, and release into an experience of equanimity, enjoyment and grace. Practicing in the style of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and in the spirit of Suzuki Roshi’s “no gaining idea,” we will investigate the fundamental moment-to-moment experience of meeting ourselves and others. We will use sitting and walking meditation, mindful speaking and listening, the body scan, gentle yoga, private interviews and poetry to explore our unfolding lives.
