All Day Sittings

These traditional yet relaxed all day sittings begin at 9:00 am and include meditation, a silent lunch, dharma talk/discussion, and dokusan (private meeting with Norman or other teachers).

Everyday Zen's All-Day Sits are held at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center (GGF), north of San Francisco, off Highway 1 at Muir Beach. See below for directions and the schedule.

Invitations to the All-Day Sits are sent by email approximately 3 weeks before each sitting. To receive invitations, please visit the Mailing Lists page, sign up for the News & Events list, and subscribe to  All-Day Sittings.

The fee for the All-Day Sittings at GGF is $100 ($90 for current SFZC members) or $80 for those on a limited income and includes lunch. Additional donations for EDZ teachers and our scholarship fund are welcome and may be made on the day of the sitting.

GGF offers limited scholarships through the Registration, Scholarships, and Cancellations page of the GGF website. Scholarships from EDZ are available for EDZ sangha members by way of a separate registration form and must be requested in advance.  You will find a link to that form in the invitation.

Registering

The invitation email will include detail on the next month’s sitting along with links and instructions on how to register. Registration is handled through the GGF website, unless you are an EDZ sangha member requesting an EDZ scholarship.

NOTE: Advance registration is available on the Green Gulch website for the first 20 registrants before our invitation goes out. Once 20 people have registered, advance registration closes. When we send the invitation to the EDZ sangha, Green Gulch will release 40 additional seats along with 10 EDZ scholarship seats.

All-Day Sitting FAQ

Where will the event be located?

Everyday Zen's All-Day Sits are now held in the zendo at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, north of San Francisco, off Highway 1 at Muir Beach. For driving directions, please see Getting to Green Gulch Farm on the GGF website.

If the venue changes, will I be notified?

We do not foresee any changes to the venue, but if there is a one-time change, you will be notified by email.

I tried to register on the GGF website and was told that it was filled. What can I do?

If you tried to register before the invitation went out, try again; additional seats are released when we send the invitation. But once the invitation goes out, registration fills up quickly. Once it does, we must honor the guidelines of our hosts and close registration.

I usually come to the All-Day Sits every month. Is it necessary to register every time?

Yes.

Is lunch included in my registration?

Yes, lunch will be provided and is covered by the cost of registration. If you intend to bring your own lunch anyway, you are welcome to do so (but it will not affect the cost of registration).

What happens if I register and my plans change, I get sick, or I can't make the event for any reason?

For changes to your registration through the GGF website, please see Registration, Scholarships, and Cancellations on the GGF website.

If you requested an EDZ scholarship, please email the registrar.

 Parking, Carpooling, and Arrival Time

Parking at GGF is limited and may be tight when other programs are happening at the same time. If possible, please arrange to carpool with other sangha members. We apologize that we aren’t able to help organize carpooling!

On arriving at GGF, follow signs to Guest Parking.

Plan to arrive between 8:30-8:45 AM so as not to disturb the first sitting from 9:00-9:20. Please check in with the registrar when you arrive, who will be at the door of Cloud Hall with a clipboard.

People attending for the first time are encouraged to meet with the Ino after the first sitting to answer any questions. Otherwise, our intention is to maintain silence throughout the day, including during lunch, outside walking meditation, and breaks.

I don't have a car; can the registrar help me find a ride?

We regret that we aren’t able to help people find rides. For public transportation options, try 511.org.

Evening Service and Dinner at GGF

Questions?

If you have additional questions, please email the registrar at alldaysit@everydayzen.org. Thank you!
